Food: This is my favorite place for Sichuan food for West Madison. I've been to several Sichuan places and would have to say this is one of the best if not the best in Wisconsin. The next closest would have to be Illinois so this will suffice for now.
I usually get their water boiled fish, mala fragrant dry pot, or stir fried crispy intestines.
You will find this place gets a decent number of Chinese customers to confirm their authentic Chinese dishes.
I have no opinion on their Japanese food since I'm very picky on where i go for authentic Japanese food (I usually have to go to Schaumburg, IL).
Service: service I would say is very good and honest for Chinese restaurants usually. They're just understaffed most of the time and if you treat them with respect and patience they will treat you the same. From my experience they've never been pushy on selling dishes but in fact have been the opposite sometimes advising me that I might be ordering too much and afraid that I might not be able to finish or they have been known to advise me not to order a dish since the vegetable shipment was not as good today based upon customer comments that day that it was too chewy or fibrous. -

If you're looking for some decent Chinese food, VIP is worth checking out. If you're looking for some fresh sushi, this is nowhere close.
We came here for lunch and while some places have "lunch rushes" this place was one of the worst. We ordered within 5 minutes of being seated but it took over 40 minutes to get our order. The sushi lunch rolls we got did not taste fresh at all. My fiancé described his spicy scallop roll as "mush" - you couldn't even make out of shapes of the scallops. -

We generally love our experience at VIP and we've eaten here several times. Good ambience in general but a few notes: (1) the music is repetitive, we heard the same songs at least twice (2) dinner took forever to get to us -- definitely hit the dinner rush (3) we had a coupon that says it's good for use anytime on anything...except it's not. They refused to let us use the coupon on the All You Can Eat. Really bizarre, not great customer service in that regard; it has me a little peeved.
Otherwise, they have some great rolls: Lady Gaga, Dragon, Caterpillar
Meh Rolls: Spider, Spicy Crab -

Overpriced Chinese food, I am surprised that they increased the price for Chinese menu only.
Food quality is not consistent, sometimes good sometimes bad.
Service definitely needs improvement. -

The atmosphere is great. Lots of cool Asian decor - but it also kindof feels like a 'quiet' dance club due to the lighting. The dim blues, greens, and pinks being being cast upon everything made for a real mellow experience.
Definitely pleased by the taste/quality of the sushi. On M-W (sushi discount nights) the low prices "ice" the "cake". There are good deals on drinks (happy hour, 4:30-9) Th-Sa but the sushi is back to full price again on those nights so "meh".
